Description of Position

The Toddler Head Teacher is responsible for the general supervision and management of a class of children, ages 18 months to 36 months. The head teacher must have a strong work ethic, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to our mission. They must be a mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. The Head Teacher must be passionate about making materials and take great care of the learning environment by being meticulous with physical materials, and nurturing student’s interests by creating a curriculum that is individualized as per their needs and passions.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
Provide a safe physical and emotional environment with appropriate expectations and limits for children.
Be able to respond appropriately in an emergency.
Be able to safely carry children when appropriate and necessary and move with urgency in the classroom and school.
Gearing the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their individual interests, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
Helping children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
Be able to provide positive behavior intervention support.
Designing a developmentally appropriate year-long and school-wide curriculum that includes individualized lessons plans.
Maintaining observations and recording keeping of student’s daily activities and skills.
Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
Working as a team with all staff, when necessary.
Implementing methods for effectively utilizing the services of classroom assistants.
Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
Conducting parent conferences when formally scheduled and as needed
Supervising children on the playground, in classrooms, and on field trips.
Communicating information about children to Director regarding health, safety, or other concerns.
Keeping daily attendance records.
Obtaining, serving, and cleaning up after snacks, lunches, parties, and other activities.
Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
Changing diapers and assisting in toileting when necessary.
Arranging with the Director for vacations, time off, or leaving early.
Attending all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
Maintaining ongoing communication with the co-teacher or assistant teacher covering such topics as classroom curriculum, responsibilities, individual children, parents, and other topics related to the classroom.
Participating in required and recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional development.

Salary is $43,000 or commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Head teachers must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children and must meet the requirements of the Office of Children and Family Services.

Head teachers should have Bachelors or Masters degree in Early Childhood Education along with AMS or AMI Montessori certification in infant/toddler.
