Description of Position

Brooklyn Children's House Montessori School is an in-home early childhood education program for children 2- 4 years old. We are licensed by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. In the hustle and bustle of New York City, co-directors and educators Lisa Bruno and Gyrchel Moore wanted to create a warm, loving, home-like environment for children’s earliest school experience. We are seeking a part time extended day teacher (2pm - 6pm - M-F) to join our year round, in-home Montessori program for children 2-4 years old.

As an extended day teacher you will
Ensure safe and appropriate supervision and observation of children.
Provide children in our extended day program with fun and engaging activities.
Learn about and practice the Montessori method and positive discipline.
Maintain a calm, joyful, and inquisitive nature with children and families.
Support toileting and diapering children.
Support teacher/directors in curricular development and implementation.
Spend periods of time outdoors (in all weather conditions) daily.
Clean and maintain the classroom environment.
Meet physical requirements of position - standing/ sitting for extended periods of time bending, reaching, lifting up to 40lbs.
Maintain training requirements for program license including, fingerprinting and background check, 15 hours of training in first 3 months of employment.

Salary is $20-$25 per hour.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications include:
Working toward or completed Bachelor’s degree (preferably in early child education or similar field)
2 years of experience working with children (family experience okay).
Provide 3 references, at least one from working with children.
Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
Ability to complete fingerprinting by the department of health.

Exceptional candidates have:
Experience with or knowledge of the Montessori Method.
Experience in childcare programs with children 2-3 years of age.
Have been previously cleared by the department of health and mental hygiene bureau of child daycare.
Have special skills to bring to our program, ie: music or dance, arts and crafts, second language, gardening.
