| Description of Position | RIVENDELL SCHOOL Responsibilities: • Working within the framework of Rivendell School to carry out its functions, policies and mission. Being familiar and complying with school and personnel policies and procedures. • Planning, supervising, and implementing the classroom program according to the philosophy and policies of the school. This includes guiding the direction of the children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, gearing the program to the needs of each child, and maintaining updated class observation and progress records. • Planning the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the curriculum. • Preparing and maintaining the classroom environment. Keeping classroom materials aesthetic, clean, and in like-new condition. Ensuring that the materials are complete and meet the group's needs. • Sharing in the planning and maintenance of shared school space. • Providing for and being aware of the safety of the children at all times. • Promoting the professional growth of assistants, aides, interns and volunteers. This includes orienting new staff to the classroom and providing a positive role model; setting aside time weekly to give opportunity for assistants, etc. to share questions and observations; providing for regularly scheduled classroom group meetings; taking responsibility for an equable sharing among all classroom personnel relating to all areas of the program; and generally promoting a classroom environment that fosters adult cooperation and growth. • Attending general staff meetings, in-service training days, staff workdays and special meetings as scheduled. Participating in professional development activities and sharing information with other staff members. • Promoting constructive parent relationships. This includes communication on a day-to-day basis and through scheduled parent/teacher conferences; contributing to parent education on child development and Montessori philosophy and practice; and respecting the confidential nature of all information regarding children and parents. • Maintaining good working relationships and objective attitudes with other staff members. • Preparing yearly goals, discussing one’s own professional performances objectively in regularly scheduled supervisory conferences, and participating in the evaluation process. • The teacher is directly responsible to the Executive Director. |
| Qualifications | The DOHMH Article 47 requirements for child care teachers are a Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or a related field of study, and NYS certification OR A Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or a related field and 5 years of supervised experience in a licensed child care program |
| Salary | Starting salary is $55,000 and negotiated based on experience. |
