At West Side Montessori School, our Infant Toddler Program provides an inviting, nurturing, and thoughtfully prepared environment where our youngest learners build trust, independence, curiosity, and confidence.

Guided by Montessori principles, our classrooms are carefully crafted to support children through every stage of early development, from the first months of life through the toddler years.

Throughout the day, children engage in uninterrupted exploration, music and movement, outdoor play, shared meals, and caring routines that become opportunities for learning, communication, and connection. Every experience is intentionally designed to foster a strong sense of security, belonging, and joyful discovery.

Driven by our passion for thoughtful early education and care, West Side Montessori School’s Infant Toddler building at 212 West 95th Street has been carefully designed to meet and nurture the needs of WSMS’s youngest community members. Following the values of our unwavering mission, our mindfully developed facility aims to act as a cornerstone of support and connection for passionate teachers, joyful children, and engaged parents.

Infant Program (3–12 Months)

The Infant classroom is a peaceful environment designed to nurture security and joyful discovery. Infants learn through movement, touch, repetition, and meaningful relationships with caring adults. Respect for each child’s individual rhythm guides the daily schedule, with feeding, sleeping, diapering, and play occurring according to each child’s individual needs.

Infants are given freedom of movement to roll, crawl, pull up, cruise, and eventually walk naturally as they develop confidence in their own abilities. Teachers carefully observe each child and introduce  materials that invite exploration and concentration.

Language is woven throughout every interaction. Songs, books, conversation, baby sign language, and responsive caregiving enrich each child’s developing communication skills while strengthening secure relationships.

Toddler Program (12–24 Months)

Our toddler environments are thoughtfully prepared to nurture growing confidence while providing the security and consistency young children need to thrive.

Children spend much of their day choosing purposeful activities that build concentration, coordination, language, and independence. Teachers foster language development through rich conversation, books, songs, baby sign language, and meaningful interactions throughout the day. Music, movement, outdoor exploration, art, and sensory experiences provide daily opportunities for creativity and discovery.
