About MDS:
The Montessori Day School of Brooklyn began in 1977 as a drop-in program for working families of the YWCA on Atlantic Avenue in downtown Brooklyn, where it operated until 2003, when the PTA formed a nonprofit organization to operate MDS as an independent school. In 2010, MDS moved from two locations (on Washington Avenue and out of Grace Church in Park Slope) to our current happy home at 237 Park Place. While we serve families from many parts of Brooklyn, MDS has become part of the fabric of our Prospect Heights neighborhood. |

International Montessori School is a non-profit, independent school located in Durham, North Carolina approximately 10 minutes south of Duke University and fifteen minutes north of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. IMS is a wonderful, diverse environment where teachers and families of many cultures, languages, and backgrounds come together in a supportive and engaging community. Our school provides full immersion programs in Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese for approximately 130 students from 3 to 12 years old. We also have a toddler program in English. Our ideal candidates have a passion for guiding young people, are lifelong learners, are creative, and thrive in a collaborative, international culture. In addition, our ideal candidates have experience in a language immersion or dual language program. IMS, an equal opportunity employer, seeks to support a diverse staff to reflect the diverse community of parents and students. Our current student body is 7% African-American or Black, 13% Asian, 46% Caucasian, 1% American Indian and 24% Multi-ethnic/Multi-racial. |

Our school is located in the town of Catskill, New York, bordering the Hudson River, with magnificent mountain views. Inside a beautifully restored 1700’s Dutch barn situated on 50 acres of forests, fields, and streams, we have two fully equipped Montessori classrooms. During our second school year (2021 – 2022) we will expand to serve children ages 9 to 12 and, 1.5 – 3 (hopefully!). We envision a place of learning for children where the indoor classroom and the outdoor environment complement one another, with Montessori education for children and adolescents from 18 months to 18 years old, in a unique and beautiful permaculture farm setting, drawing inspiration from the ephemeral beauty of nature. AMI
School Community | |
Colm Cille Club first began in the fall of 2010 as “Thursday Club,” when seven families interested in homeschooling joined together to hire a teacher to educate their (very!) young children once a week in an apartment in Riverdale. The following year, we met in two of the members’ homes, and began the first year of our memory work cycle (beginning with Year 2 as some members had already completed Year 1 on their own). By spring 2012, our membership had grown, and it became clear that meeting in homes was no longer sustainable. We found the space at St. Catharine’s in Pelham, NY to be a perfect fit for our group. With the increased space, we were able to add in more classes to our memory work, art, music, and science classes. In the fall of 2013, we began our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and middle school programs, and in the fall of 2014, we started our theater program. Word has continued to spread throughout the area, and our membership has grown to include over 30 families and over 90 children ages 0 to 13. Over the past 5 years, we have continued to perfect our 3 year cycle of memory work and other programs as the marvelous mothers (and fathers!) in our group have contributed their talents and gifts. God has richly blessed our community as we’ve grown, and we pray He keeps us close to Him as we continue on this journey. St. Colm Cille, pray for us! The Colm Cille Club is a classical, Catholic homeschooling cooperative. CCC is not a full homeschooling curriculum. It is a small body of material we commit to learning together. We choose material we think is well-suited to the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on truth, goodness, and beauty. On co-op day, we aim to provide experiences which are difficult to create at home. Children enjoy a fun and motivating environment for memorization, sing in a choir, and engage in hands-on art and science projects. Beginning in fourth grade, students are given writing assignments which can be returned to a teacher for feedback. They also participate in theatrical performances and book discussions. Central to our co-op philosophy is nourishing our member families’ Catholic faith. Co-op day begins with mass every week. Beginning at age three, children begin their formal catechesis and enter the Joyful Child Atrium, a beautiful space designed specially to meet the spiritual needs of the child. Older students participate in the CatLab, where they learn from visiting priests and religious and engage in lively discussions about their faith. We meet every Monday for a full day and offer an optional Thursday afternoon for drama and writing from September through May. We take off the month of January. |

Director of Lower School
Description of Position
Professional and personable … serious and silly … meticulous and magical … inspired and inspiring.
If those four alliterative pairings fit you (and if you know the deep value of bringing your teachers chocolate at just the right moment), you might fit in pretty well at Greensboro Montessori School. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Montessori leader to join our crew and to fill a newly created administration role of director of lower school. Pedagogical Pedigree Our new director of lower school must have a deep commitment to and significant experience with Montessori philosophy. AMS credentialing and several years teaching experience in at least one of the Lower School divisions (Toddler, Primary, Lower Elementary) is a must. Additionally, they need to value and have direct experience with teaching to students’ different learning styles, being a champion for professional development, and building and maintaining strong parent partnerships. Leadership Style We seek a leader who believes in empowering faculty — in being a servant leader. We believe leadership is based on authenticity, humility, and connections, not power and control. We seek someone who is calm under pressure, who sees both the big picture and the hundreds of myriad details, who believes in our peace curriculum, and who finds joy in their work every day. Our new director of lower school will be equally confident supporting faculty as managing difficult parent conversations as getting down on the ground and giving a lesson to a student. We want to feel comfortable asking this person for help, knowing that we won’t be judged and that we may gain some practical tips or insights derived from your many past Montessori experiences. Roles and Responsibilities The director of lower school is a 12-month position and will be responsible for coordinating the 18-month to third grade curriculum and program, as well as the 20 to 25 faculty who teach within the divisions. Coordination will include internal and external communications, scheduling, parent partnership, student outcome and program assessment, bridge to the administration team, budget review, and being the face of our Lower School. Direct contact with students in various capacities will be part of the job, in addition to coaching and partnering with faculty and families. They will also support other members of administration, offering high-level oversight to our after-school and summer camp programs and working closely with our director of upper school. |
