From that single school in Southern California, LePort Schools has grown to more than 20 schools today, extended its mission to the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Northern Virginia.

Passion for the Montessori philosophy; excellence communicating this philosophy to parents and community
Genuine warmth and love for guiding children and their families
Benevolent outlook towards solving problems and advocating for our educational viewpoint (at LePort, we call this “focusing on the solution, not on the problem”)

Our campus is located in the family-oriented Brooklyn neighborhood of Cobble Hill. With a collaborative, eager, excited culture, our staff works together to continually make our school better each day, week and month. As Montessorians, we foster ideas, creativity, and independence in ourselves as teachers to reflect our classroom Montessori methodology. We also like to have fun with monthly birthday celebrations, staff happy hour, yoga, meditation, and professional development opportunities.

Boasting gorgeous and large prepared environments with ample outdoor playspace – a rooftop playground and second-floor terrace, our facility is a unique gem in New York City schools. As a teacher, you determine your classroom needs and we meet your needs and help you make your prepared environment perfect for your children.

Founding Teacher-Leaders: Primary and Elementary

Description of Position

Wildflower is a network of teacher-led micro-schools that aim to provide racially and socioeconomically diverse communities with exceptional Montessori education. This is an invitation for founding teachers to open primary and elementary schools in Catskill, a post-industrial town on the Hudson River that is experiencing a community-led economic resurgence through an environmentally sustainable “maker” economy.

The Catskill community welcomes teachers interested in opening Wildflower schools, beautiful, child-centered learning environments that support children, teachers, and families from diverse backgrounds as they follow life’s unfolding journey. The model combines authentic Montessori in one-room, neighborhood-nested shopfronts with promising new ideas in teacher empowerment and equity. Wildflower aspires to give all children and families the opportunity to choose high quality, nurturing learning environments for their children.

Qualifications

A deep commitment to authentic Montessori – Your expertise will position you to be a highly effective facilitator of children’s learning and to extend the values of Montessori to include the adults within your school community.

A background working in Montessori communities – You have been through or are in the process of completing an AMS or AMI teacher training program.

Entrepreneurial leadership – Your default mode is “yes.” You are flexible, open-minded, see opportunity in obstacles, and are energized by creating solutions to problems.

Commitment to serving diverse and multifaceted communities – You are eager to increase access to Montessori to racially and socioeconomically diverse communities and are deeply committed to supporting the development of intersectional communities. You may be especially passionate about working closely with families who are new to the United States, Native Nations, and/or families who speak another language at home.

Generosity of spirit – You live with kindness, work gently with others, practice gratitude, and lead with love. You seek advice openly and are comfortable working in a non-hierarchical organization.

Partnership: you enjoy working with others – you are excited about collaborating with a partner who will co-lead and co-teach with you.

Willingness to work hard – You have the stamina, time, and appetite to raise yourself to the challenge of starting and leading your own school. You will not be alone, but you will be busy.

A desire to learn and grow – You are eager to stretch beyond your current experience, to develop new skills and expertise and to more deeply explore your purpose and potential.

School Community

Each Wildflower school is inherently unique: led by the teachers who bring their training and life experience, along with a deep commitment to meeting the specific needs of their children and families. Embedded within this beautiful diversity of experiences and perspectives, there are are nine principles that unite our schools:

Montessori – Peaceful, mixed-age, child-directed environments guided by trained Montessorians.

Teacher Led – Each one-room school is led by two teachers-leaders who serve as both faculty and administrators

Equity – Diverse, inclusive environments that work to dismantle systems of oppression, ensure every child gets what they need, and embrace justice as the foundation of peace

Shopfront – A neighborhood-nested school committed to working in partnership with the surrounding community to create an environment that is healthier for children

Lab – Committed to exploring new ideas and the ongoing, scientific study and improvement of our practice

Home – Blurring the boundaries of home-schooling and institutional schooling; parents are valued partners of the teacher-leaders

Beauty – Cultivating a deep beauty in all things – in the design, culture and artistic expression within our school environments; in our interactions with one another; and in our relationship with ourselves

Nature – Emphasizing the connection between nature and humans through a unique living-classroom design and extensive time in nature

Network – Advancing an ecosystem of independent Wildflower schools that mutually support one another
